Little Black Book - Jade Devall Designs

I found Jade Devall's gorgeous website with thanks to Domestic Sluttery's Pinterest account (warning: only click on that link if you're prepared to drool over a lot of lovely things!)

It's full of beautiful gift cards, ceramics and textiles to brighten your home, with all the prints guaranteed to make you smile - they're whimsical, cute and very, very English. Better still, Jade works from her studio in Staffordshire, with every ceramic piece decorated by hand - how lovely is that?

I especially love the cake stands in the bird line print and will definitely be adding them to my ever-growing ceramics collection!

Enjoy!

Friday Food Lust - Strawberry and Cinnamon Torte

Source
'Tis the season for good old British strawberries, so I thought I'd treat you with this simple yet delicious recipe for Strawberry and Cinnamon Torte! Doesn't it look mouthwatering?

This one really couldn't be easier - you just need to bung the ingredients in a food processor, bake and you're done! So you have no excuse to not treat yourself to a delicious slice this weekend - go on, get baking!

Sam x

Ingredients:
175g ground almonds
175g butter, softened
175g golden caster sugar
175g self-raising flour
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 large egg, plus one yolk
450g strawberries, hulled and sliced
Icing sugar, for dusting
Whipped double cream mixed with Greek yogurt (half and half), to serve

Method:
1) Preheat the oven to 180C, then grease and line the base of a loose-bottomed 23cm cake tin.

2) Take your food processor, then chuck in the almonds, butter, sugar, flour, cinnamon, egg and egg yolk. Blitz until each of the ingredients is well combined.

3) Spread half the mixture over the base of the tin in a smooth layer (run a palette knife over the top if it helps!) Next, spread the sliced strawberries on top and then add the remaining cake mixture - don't worry if a few strawberries peek out!

4) Bake for around one hour, but make sure you check it after 40 minutes - if it's getting too brown, cover loosely with foil. The torte should be slightly risen and dark golden brown when cooked.
4) Cool slightly, then remove from the tin. Slide the torte onto a plate and sprinkle with a dusting of icing sugar. Serve warm or cold, in wedges with dollops of cream and Greek yogurt.

Friday's High Street Hitlist

Happy Friday all!

This week, there are still some mega sales on, but (and I may be the only one to say this!) I'm slightly excited to see the autumnal fashions slowly seeping their way into stores.

If Topshop is anything to go by, there will be a lot of khaki and deep berry hues around this A/W, while mustard is also going to be a key colour.

But fret not - there are still plenty of summer buys and, perhaps more importantly given the weather, lots of light summer jackets and cover-ups.

Happy shopping!

Fabulous Finds - Anthropologie's Altair Tent

As regular readers will know, I am not a fan of camping (something about a sheep, a torrential thunderstorm and a Brownie campsite - you don't need to know anymore!).

However, I know for a fact that I would be more than happy to stay in Anthropologie's glamorous Altair Tent (click here), especially if someone could put me up on a beach too. It's the pinnacle of glamping!

It looks like something out of Lawrence of Arabia, doesn't it? I can just imagine sitting on the beach at night, candles flickering gently in the background, water lapping at the shore, something yummy cooking on the campfire. Glamorous, chic and cool - the only downside is the price (£5,998). I think it may be one for the lottery win...

Lust-Have - One Green Zebra Scarves

I've always had a bit of a thing for scarves. In fact, I have a whole collection of them dotted around the house - I'm running out of space for them!

I love the way that they can transform a dull outfit, or lift your skin if you're feeling a bit tired and grey. But I have to admit that my newest scarf from One Green Zebra has quickly become a bit of a favourite, relegating every other scarf I own to the, well, scrap-heap...

Not only is it super soft (cashmere, no less!) but the turquoise blue really makes an impact when worn with a neutral colour, such as a white blazer. It also does a great job of disguising my baby bump!

My scarf!

Laura specialises in bright, vivid prints (rhinos and, um, zebras this season - and you're in for a treat with her new stock, coming soon!) in an array of colours and she also makes fab cushions and tea towels for the home too. What more could you want?

Quite honestly, I could go nuts buying scarves on this website. I have received so many compliments, and my hubby happily sits there stroking the scarf at night. Yep, it is THAT soft!

Which colour would you go for?

Sam x

P.S Here are some pics of a pregnant me (29 weeks pregnant, no less!) in my scarf...I promise you, it's not a pot belly, it really is a baby bump!

Dos and Don'ts of a Wedding Guest

This afternoon I am discussing the Dos and Don'ts of the Wedding Guest. I have attended many weddings and unfortunately not everyone shows respect to the wedding hosts. Below is a little guide of wedding guest etiquette.

Teresa x

DO

Firstly, do RSVP to the wedding invitation as soon as possible. Nothing worse than having to chase up people who have still not replied.

Do dress to impress, but do not try to upstage the bride.

Do arrive to the wedding ceremony on time. It doesn't look good if you walk in after the bride.

Do switch off your mobile phone during the ceremony.

Do be respectful of cultural or religious traditions.

Do remember to take the confetti.

Do sing along with the hymns in church, there's nothing worse than a full church and everyone mumbling their way through. Make the effort.

Do talk to everyone else on your table at the wedding breakfast, make the effort and get to know others.

Do show your appreciation and say thank you for being invited to share the special day.

Do be on your best behaviour and chat to the bride's Great Aunt Gladys who might be on her own and has no one to talk to.

Do get up on the dance floor in the evening and enjoy yourselves.

Do have fun!

DON'T

Ladies - Do not wear white, ivory or cream. Also, try to find out the colour of bridesmaid dresses too and make sure you don't wear that colour either.

Men - don't turn up in a casual outfit. You must wear shirt, tie and trousers (preferably a suit) unless the invitation states otherwise (i.e. beach wedding)

Don't get in the way of the photographer because you want to take a photo of the bride and groom.

Don't start hassling the photographer with questions on how to improve your photo-taking techniques and certainly don't ask him/her about their cameras. They are there to do a job, they are not camera support staff.

Don't complain to the bride or groom that your meal was not up to scratch.

In fact, don't moan about anything, it's just rude.

Don't get up and go to the toilet or pop outside for a cigarette break as the speeches start.

Don't upload your photos to Facebook without the newlyweds consent. They might want to share the first pic.

Don't clear off home early unless you are ill and nobody wants to catch your germs.

Don't get ridiculously drunk. People will always remember the person who vomited everywhere and had to be carried to bed. Not good!

Over 50 Wedding Veils - The Short and Long of it

When it comes to wearing a wedding veil you are probably thinking whether to have a short, mid-length or a full on cathedral length veil, but there is so much more to it than that.

Firstly, you can have one tier, two tier or even a three tier veil and then there is the decision of where to place your veil - top of your head or at the back? And do you want the veil to cover your face?

Below I have put together a lot of different images from Style Me Pretty on different boards showing you a huge array of veil ideas - whether it be a simple blusher veil or a Mantilla lace veil. The choices are endless.

A Mid-Length veil is a popular choice, the length can fall anywhere from the elbow to the lower hip. The bride (top left) has more volume in her veil and I must say, I love this look. I do love the lace edged veils too (middle right and bottom right) they are so pretty and will add the extra detail if your wedding dress is a simple style.

I love the length of the bride's veil (middle left), it suits the style of her dress perfectly and no other hair accessory is needed.

LOVE the colourful embroidery on the brides (top row) veils, and the orange indian veil is ruddy lovely.
If you are a bit more hip and want to wear a veil which is more you and you're not into the traditional style veil then go for something different and wear it in a similar style to the brides (middle and bottom row). I am in awe of the (middle left) bride's bandana styled veil.

A blusher or a vintage-inspired style veil is perfect for the bride who wants to stand out. Definitely for a stylish lady who is no plain Jane. I cannot stop staring at the bride (bottom left), the dress and the veil is utter perfection!

Fun and fluffy. Yep tulle adds some oomph to your look when you use it for its volume and use it as an alternative to a simple veil. If you can carry off this look then I say go for it! I think it's ace!

This style board has got to be my favourite, I adore every single one of these looks. The bride (bottom right) with bow and tulle covering - cool as, especially with the red lips!

Nothing says glamour more than when you have a cathedral length veil. Not only will it look absolutely amazing when you walk up the aisle but it is going to make for some fabulous wedding photos when you swish it around!

How magnificent is the extra prettiness of a detailed edge on your veil? All of these veils are heavenly and will most definitely be handed down to future generations to wear on their special day too.

The chapel length veil is a great choice for the bride who wants the length but not that of Princess Diana epic proportions. Having a veil cascading the entire length of your wedding gown softens the overall look and gives it a more romantic feel.

I hope you have found these many veil images a lot of help in deciding on which length or style of veil to choose. I know there are many brides out there who really do not want to wear a veil but feels that they have to because of pressure from others. If you do not feel comfortable in wearing a veil, then don't! It is your special day and it's your wedding photos you will be showing for many years to come.

If you do choose to wear a veil then do remember you do not have to wear it all day and night, most ladies remove their veils prior to the wedding breakfast, which I think ties in with an etiquette rule of ladies (mother of the bride, etc) removing their hats too.

If I was getting married again (if only we could wear a wedding dress every year!) then I would love to wear one of the shorter veils, I love the blusher veils!

Happy Wedding Wednesday
