The World's Best Hot Chocolate, Ever

Source: Delicious Cooks
I never, ever thought I'd be craving hot chocolate in mid-July. A huge vat of Pimms, yes, but never hot chocolate.

Of course, this has been one of those freakish English summers where you can't predict anything - and I desperately want to spend my evenings curled up on the sofa with a mug of steaming hot chocolate.

Assuming this isn't a pregnancy craving and I'm not the only one (when else have you ever had to turn the heating on in July?), I thought I'd share the recipe for Jamie Oliver's Epic Hot Chocolate. It beats any packet mix of chocolate hands-down, and I always always have a tub of it ready-made. You know, just incase...

So, here we are - make yourself up a batch of this, indulge and wish the rain away...

Ingredients
(Serves 8-10)

Two pints semi-skimmed milk

For the epic hot chocolate mix:
2 tbsps Horlicks
2 tbsps cornflour
3 tbsps tablespoons icing sugar
4 tbsps good quality organic cocoa
100g good quality dark chocolate, finely grated
Pinch of ground cinnamon
Pinch of sea salt

Method:

1) Pour the milk into a large pan, bringing almost to the boil over a medium heat.

2) Meanwhile, add each of the chocolate mix ingredients to a large jar and give it a good shake to combine.

3) For this amount of milk, you'll need to add around 10 heaped tablespoons of the chocolate mix. Now, spoon the chocolate mix into the hot milk, give it a good whisk and leave to bubble for a few minutes before serving. You’re looking for that gorgeous, thick, almost claggy, knockout texture. It can taste quite bitter if you're not a huge dark chocolate lover, so be prepared to add some sugar!

4) Top with whatever you fancy (marshmallows, cream, you know the drill) and drink up!
