How to Rock a Peplum

Love it or hate it, the dramatic silhouette of the peplum is one of this year's biggest trends - and if the high street is anything to go by, it's here to stay.

Yet despite it defying all fashion logic ("I know, let's add a ruffle to the widest part of a woman's body and see how it looks!"), it can actually work to your advantage (and look gorgeously sexy) by emphasising your waist and curves. In fact, if you wear it right, it's a fashion knockout - just look at Michelle Williams, Blake Lively and Olivia Palermo wearing their peplums for inspiration!

Anyway, to show you how easy it is to wear a peplum, I've put together some of my favourite peplum looks - just remember to keep everything else simple, making the peplum the main statement, and you're good to go!

Will you be brave enough to rock a peplum?

This is my favourite look of them all. If I lived in New York City, this is the kind of thing I'd be running about in every day - at least, in my dreams. Take a simple peplum top, team it with leather skinnies, wayfarers and a slicked-back pony, add in a  glamorous tote and sexy courts, et voila! One sexy girl about town. Miranda Kerr, eat your heart out!

Black retro sunglasses, £12, ASOS
Red Gatwick matte nail varnish, £15.95, Nails Inc
Black studded shopper, £129, Zara
'Sex' 120 patent leather pumps, £825, Christian Louboutin

This is how to wear a peplum in the office, without looking like a total moron. Just take a black ruffled skirt (I threw in a leather one, but there are plenty of cheaper, plain black ones available on the high street) and pair with either a plain grey tee or silk blouse. To take it from office-to-bar, add a slick of vampy lipstick - oooh la la!

Red lipstick, Armani
White silk signature blouse, £230, Equipment
Gold skull ring, £150, Alexander McQueen
Black leather peplum skirt, £1,755, Alexander McQueen
Grey t-shirt, £70, Helmut Lang
Platform ankle boots, £49.99, Zara

This is probably the easiest of all the looks to wear, and is ideal for a night out with the girls. Just embrace your inner rock chick and go, go, go!

Black leather Shark Teeth box clutch, £895, Alexander McQueen

Need to dress to impress? Then this one is for you! How sexy is this dress?! Be sure to let it do all the talking - keep hair and make-up simple and accessories to a minimum. Better still, don't add any jewellery. Your dress will say it all...
