What Do You Wear On The School Run?

Do you ever think about what to wear for the school run? Apparently more and more women are googling what to wear just to drop their kiddies at school.

I am sure for most of you, your job will determine what you wear whether you work in a bank, a care home or on a building site; you dress accordingly. But what are the housewives of Great Britain turning up at the school gates wearing?

To be honest, I have never given a hoot and I have never entertained playground politics, honestly, they're some clicky bitching mothers out there. Saddos! But if a woman was to turn up in her pyjamas to drop her children off (I have never seen it but apparently it does happen) well, I would be thinking "Really?! You really couldn't be that bothered to get dressed this morning."

I suppose as a group, mothers can be competitive and what they're wearing is certainly going to be one area they may worry about and feel necessary to choose something cool to wear on the school run.

So, yep due to demand I am going to give you a few ideas of what to wear for the school run. (UGGS, Crocs and Toms are banned, obvs!)

My first port of call, would be a cool pair of jeans.

I am a true believer of paying as much as you can afford when it comes to jeans….why? Because when you pay for better quality they will last you years and years and years. A lot of my cheaper buys never lasted two minutes.

You also need to decide which fit suits you the best - are you a low, mid or high-rise type of gal? For me, I prefer a mid-rise or high-rise but that's what my figure suits the most. If you are not sure which rise you are then check out Finding The Perfect Jeans For Your Body Shape

Here's some of the most coveted jeans at the shops right now….

Dusty pink Baxter jeans, TOPSHOP £40
Karen Millen boyfriend jean in faded wash, ASOS £85
Grey Amelie superskinny jeans, RIVER ISLAND £35

Rip knee skinny jeans, TOPSHOP £42
Dark washed jeans, ZARA £39.99
Levi's 501 boyfriend jeans, ASOS £90
The skinny selvage jeans, RAG & BONE £190
High rise skinny jeans, LEVIS £85

I am a massive fan of skinny flares, always have been. They elongate your legs and look so flippin' cool. Here's the nicest flared jeans your pennies can buy...

Next is the footwear. If you are rushing to and fro with your children then the shoes have got to be comfortable, durable and of course, fashionable. Seriously, do not totter around in high heels on the school run, you will break your anke. Save your heels for nights out.

You need to be looking at flats and boots, here's the best picks from the high street:

Favourite Flat Shoes

Pink tumbled ballerinas, TOPSHOP £16
Oxblood leather loafers, ASOS £45
Leopard ballerinas, ZARA £19.99
Princeton black exclusive, OFFICE £45
Mardi gold trim slippers, TOPSHOP £24
Loolu tan flat loafers, DUNE £69

These boots are made for walking

There's only one type of boot to buy right now and that is the ankle boot. Choose anything from Acne to Zara, they are all gorgeous!

Pistol short boots in black, ACNE £350
Posey suede ankle boots, SAM EDELMAN £170
Cut out leather boots, TOPSHOP £45
Black/blue saxe ankle boots, DUNE £165
Heeled ankle boots, MIISTA at ASOS £175
Flat ankle boot with elastic panel, ZARA £29.99
Hope chelsea boots (also come in black), JOHN LEWIS £47

And if that selection of flats and boots isn't enough, then you can look at more with our Over 30 Shoes You Will Want To Wear This Autumn article which we featured the other week.

So, the all important bit of your school run wardrobe is what peeps are going to see the most of because you will wear it all the time. The COAT!

Not all coats for Autumn/Winter have hit the shops yet, most will land near the end of September. But if like me, you cannot wait, then here's the best ones out there….

What Coat To Wear This Winter?

Belle boucle wool coat, FRENCH CONNECTION £200
Black longline unfastened blazer, RIVER ISLAND £45
Notch neck thrown on coat, TOPSHOP £85
Aubergine zipped coat, JUST FEMALE at ASOS £288
Wool button down coat, ZARA £69.99

Phelia coat in oatmeal, HOBBS £289
Rose oversized soft coat, MAISON SCOTCH £195

A coat is an investment to your winter wardrobe, you are going to be wearing it nearly every day, so again, please invest as many pennies as you can in the most seen piece from your wardrobe. And if you work out cost per wear, then it sounds a lot cheaper, (these are the sums you give to your husband so you can buy a new coat!)

Whenever I am buying a new coat I always check the lining. If it's too tight or too loose near hem or cuffs it will affect the fit of the coat. Have you ever tried on a coat and the edge of the lining shows below the cuff? Well, don't buy it!  And if the lining is too tight at certain edges of the coat you will have a dodgy fitting coat.

Do flick back through our most recent High Street Hitlists, by simply clicking on the FASHION tab above and you will find more coats, jeans and shoes which are going to having you looking super stylish next season.

Let me know what you pick…..
